Trekking to Everest is a wonderful time to enjoy some of the best mountain sceneries on earth and meet the famous ethnic people of Sherpa and. An interesting flight in the mountains will take you to the Everest Trail and the alpine world. You can reach perhaps the highest viewpoint in the world to view some of the most brilliant views of mountains including Mount Everest. It is a learning opportunity to observe the alpine of life and the Buddhist way of life. Mani walls (prayer wheel) and chhorten and monasteries are seen during the trek.

Sacred lakes, waterfalls, and glaciers would meet you regularly during the trek. You will see highland people doing their daily life and observe how friendly people can be despite the challenges in the highlands and the basic amenities they have.

Climbing Island Peak is one of the popular climbing schedule in Nepal. Sir Edmund Hillary had climbed the Island Peak before conquering Everest probably as a part of his preparation for Mt. Everest. It is a mountain climb of mixed nature of climbing and an important milestone for lovers of mountaineering and peak climbing.

Itinerary - Day by day

Day 1. Arrival in Kathmandu Airport

Arrival in Kathmandu Airport and welcomed by a guide at the airport. Transfer to the hotel where the guide would brief the trekking program. You may have some time, depending upon your time of arrival, to explore areas near to the hotel.

Day 2. Kathmandu

A day of rest or options for sightseeing tours or city walks and enjoy areas around the hotel.


Day 3. Lukla-Phakding

Early morning drive to Ramechhap to take a flight of 25-minute flight to Lukla’s interesting airport of Tenzing Hillary Airport. Flights in high altitudes depend highly on weather conditions. Lukla is the gateway to Everest Area. The stunning view of Kwande Peak is the beginning of several mountains we see during the trek. A gentle trek in the Dudh Koshi valley through the rhododendron forest beside Dudh Koshi river. Cross steam of Thade Koshi. Prayer wall (mani walls) are seen during the walk. We trek through the settlement of Ghat and visit a monastery before arriving at Phakding.
Ascent 100 m and descent 300 m.

Day 4. Namche

We prepare for a challenging day of trekking. An enchanting trek through the village of Tok Tok to see the grandeur of Thamserku mountain. Bengar village and Monjo are villages on the way. Enter the area of Sagarmatha National Park, a World Heritage Site (Natural). Trek through Jorsale village and cross the suspension bridge over the icy river from where the majestic sight of Tabuche mountain is seen. Steep trek up for a couple of hours through the pine forest to arrive at Namche.

 Ascent 1,100 m and descent 310 m.

Day 5. Mountain sightseeing and pleasure walking

A day for acclimatization or rest in Namche.
Options for a panoramic view of the highest mountains at 360 from the Tenzing Hillary Park, a famous viewpoint renowned for sunrise on the top of Mt. Everest. After breakfast, hike to the popular village of Khumjung, visit the revered monastery there, and visit Everest View Hotel and back to Namche.

Ascent 400 m and descent 400 m.

Day 6. Kangjuma-Mong La-Phortse Thanga

Gentle ascent to trek to Kangjuma overlooking the breathtaking views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Kang Tega, Thamserku, Lhotse, and others. After Kanjuma, gentle ascent to Mong La. We are likely to see yaks and Himalayan Tahr on the way. A descent through the forest on the ridge to Phortse Thanga. It is a shore beside the blue Dudh Koshi River that originated from Gokyo Lake.

Ascent 530 m and descent 370 m.

  4-5 hours


Day 7. Dole-Machermo

We trek up through the forest and we are likely to see yaks. Gentle trek from Dole to Machermo.  A small modern medical facility for mountain sickness is there in Machermo. It has a fantastic view of Cho Oyu (8,210 m), Tabuche, and Chola Tse. Reach Machermo.  

Ascent 1,050 m and descent 300 m.

  5-6 hours


Day 8. Machermo-Gokyo

We will quickly notice the change of vegetation and lack of oxygen. Gentle ascent beside the Ngazumpa Glacier over the trekking trail and visit two lakes on the way to famous Gokyo Lake. We are likely to see ducks swimming over the blue lake. We will see Cho Oyu (8,201 m), Pasang Lhamu Peak, and Lobuche mountains.

Trek slow but steady is an important principle in trekking. The reason to slow down is to acclimatize the body with the high altitude.

Ascent 425 m and descent 75 m.

  4-5 years


Day 9. Gokyo Ri-Dragnag

We have two options to climb to Gokyo Ri.
Option A is to climb early morning for sunrise over Everest and photography opportunities. We need a headlight to get prepared.
Option B is to trek during the day for mountain views.

After lunch, trek over the Ngazumpa Glacier on the moraine to Dragnag. We walk over the glacier for a couple of hours.

Ascent 725 m and descent 725 m

  6-7 hours


Day 10. Dzong La

Climb up over the steep trekking trail up to 5,000 m. Descent a bit and then the trail becomes challenging and rocky on the way to Chola Pass (5,420 m). After the pass, the trail is over the icy glacier with lots of moraines. Descent to Dzong La.

Ascent 850 m and descent 750 m.

Day 11. Lobuche-Gorakshep-Kala Patthar

Trekking trail overlooking Pumori, Lhotse, Lobuche, and Ama Dablam. Join the main trail of Everest Base Camp when we reach Lobuche. Trek up to Gorakshep. Gorakshep is high pastureland surrounded by mighty mountains. A gentle stretch to scale the hilltop of Kala Patthar for breathtaking sunset views just below Pumori. Back to Gorakshep.

Ascent 900 m and descent 650 m.

  6-7 hours


Day 12. EBC-Lobuche

In the morning, we trek up to Everest Base Camp over the Khumbu Glacier. We will see a lot of tents and movements trekkers and mountaineers of expeditions in the spring season. It is a favorite place for trekkers. Back to Gorakshep for lunch and trek to Lobuche.

Ascent 650 m and descent 650 m.

  5-6 hours


Day 13. Chukhung

Early morning trek to Kongma La pass passing over the Khumbu Glacier within a couple of hours. It is advised to strictly follow the guide during the trek to avoid crevasse. Climb up to the pass-through moraine to reach Kongma La pass. While crossing, gentle descent and we see a glacier lake and reach Chukhung settlement of lodges.

Ascent 650 m and descent 825 m

  7-8 hours


Day 14. Island Base Camp

Start trek to Island Peak Base Camp with a gentle ascent for about three hours. It is a comfortable trek over the moraine and sand. We reach to the base camp. After lunch, preparation and demonstration for climbing by climbing guide. You are advisable to learn and practice the skills of mountaineering. We will have early dinner for a good night rest and to prepare for the challenging day early tomorrow morning. Stay inside the cozy tent in the Island Base Camp.

Ascent 240 m and descent 20 m.

Day 15. Crampon Point-Island Peak-Island Base Camp

Get up early in the morning around 1 AM, light breakfast and warm tea/coffee and begin to walk around 2 AM. Easy climbing to High Camp for a couple of hours. After High Camp, we need to walk over the moraine and rock climbing for two hours till Crampon Point. Change in gear for ice climbing and proceed. We may need to use ladder to climb while climbing up. In three to four hours, we reach to the summit of Island Peak.

A sense of great achievement while you summit Island Peak. The peaks clearly visible from the summit are Lhotse Shar, Makalu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam and great views of Khumbu Valley. Return back to Island Peak Base Camp and stay in the tent.

Ascent 1,220 m and descent 1,220 m.

  10-12 hours


Day 16. Tengboche

Trek all the way down to Debuche. Trek through trekking trail up to Pangboche. Pass through juniper and rhododendron forest to reach Deboche. Slight ascent to Tengboche. Visit Tengboche monastery.

  5-6 hours


Day 17. Namche

Descend to Phunki Tenga and cross the river to ascend to Sanasa and easy trail to Namche. Namche is a great place to relax and enjoy the evening. It is a famous place to buy souvenirs. Stay in Namche.

Day 18. Lukla

An easy trek day to Lukla.
Lukla is a place to celebrate the great trek experienced with the trekking team. You may offer to leave trekking gears you don’t need to your trekking team. It may be a generous gesture to those who cannot afford to buy such.

Ascent 375 m and descent 375 m

  6-7 hours


Day 19. Ramechhap

Time to say goodbye to the trekking crew. Flight to Ramechap and drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.

Day 20. Kathmandu valley

Options for sightseeing to World Heritage Sites/city walk/ayurvedic massage or rest in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu Valley has, perhaps, the densest concentration of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Seven UNESCO WHS of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Boudhha, Pashupati, Patan Durbar Square, Swoyambhu, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Changu Narayan Temple are framed within 400 sq km. For a full day tour exploring three UNESCO WHS are comfortably possible. For example, you may choose Bhaktapur Durbar Square (a medieval city square), Pashupati (the holiest Hindu temple) and Bouddha (a Buddhist stupa) for a smart mix of culture and architecture with two major religious (Buddhism and Hinduism) sites of Nepal.


Day 21. Flight back home.

Free time in Kathmandu and transfer to the airport in time to fly back home.
